How to get more funds to market your MSP

As an MSP, you work with many vendors and sell their products to your clients.

These vendors want you to sell more of their products.

Some of these vendors have funds allocated to give you the opportunity to market your MSP and sell more of their products.

These funds are called Marketing Development Funds (MDF).

The process to get MDF funds

  1. List all the vendors you work with and how much you pay them each quarter.
  2. Contact the reps of these vendors, tell them you want to request MDF funds, and ask for the process.
  3. Tell the rep that this particular campaign will generate more revenue for you and me. What has been approved for MDF funds at your organization generally?
  4. Go through the vendor process and request the funds.
  5. Keep track of how much of MDF funds were approved for you every quarter.

Tips for MDF funds

  1. The vendor might want you to list their name directly in your marketing campaign, but you do not have to do this. You can list the generic service because if you sell the service, you are selling the vendor’s particular implementation of the service.
  2. When you show the vendor your marketing campaign, you can replace the generic service with their name if needed.
  3. You can show all the new clients who started using that vendor’s service during that quarter as campaign results.
  4. If the vendor is not giving funds to a campaign that you want to try, you can get the funds to a different campaign that they approve that you’re already doing and use the savings for the new campaign.
